John Hubbard Antiques has dated this piece to the Regency era.
Inside, two lift up writing boards with a high quality black gilt and blind embossed skiver, a pair of glass and brass topped inkwells and three secret drawers with very hard-to-find trigger for the panel!

The underside of the bottom writing board still bears the original makers label in gilt "Dieu et mon droit" & "Honi soit qui mal y pense" found on Britain's Royal coat of arms.
