N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock to the 19th Century.
This lovely antique mantel clock has a lovely gilt bronze case of fantastic, small proportions.
To the top of the column there is then a cherub / putti shown holding a flower with a further cherub / putti to the right of the column holding a small bird. The case then features a maiden to the right of the column with a spilled basket of flowers to her feet and her arm raised to off the cherub flowers. The whole case then sits of a lovely shaped base with a patterned panel to the front. Finally the whole thing is finished by six, lovely turned feet.
The dial is then painted and set out in black Arabic numerals as well as having a thin ring of dashes marking the minutes and every five minutes being marked in Arabic numerals. The dial is then finished by two lovely shaped hands as well as a bevelled, protective glass set into a brass bezel.
The movement is then wound from the back and adjusted from the front. It is a French example of small size running on a balance wheel. The movement ticks away as it should and comes complete with its winding key.
It measures approximately:
11" / 37cm Tall.
10.25" / 26cm Wide.
7" / 17.75cm Deep.
