Magnificent Antique English Walnut Box - Classical Marquetry Inlay C.1840

Description

A quite wonderful box, the like of which I haven't had before, made from Walnut and trimmed in Boxwood, all five sides are inlaid with the most exquisite classical scenes, a quite magnificent amount of work producing a highly decorative jewelry or table box.

The front is is inlaid with a diamond shaped ivory escutcheon which houses the working key. The box has been recently re-lined with hand marbled paper producing a clean and very usable interior.

Excellent condition, with some old warping to the top, mentioned purely for accuracy. 10 7/8" x 7 3/4" x 4" deep.
