Rummer glasses emerged in the late 18th century and remained popular throughout the 19th century as sturdy drinking vessels used primarily for ale, wine, and rum punches in homes and taverns.

These glasses were typically hand-blown using lead crystal or lime glass, featuring thick bowls, short sturdy stems, and heavy footed bases, often decorated using wheel-engraving or diamond-point techniques.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor surface wear consistent with age, subtle variations in thickness due to hand-blowing, and period-accurate motifs or iconography.

Antique glass can be displayed openly within glass-fronted cabinets, used as tabletop centrepieces with dried florals, or styled on open shelving to introduce historical texture and transparent layering to a room.

Antique glass should be washed gently by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and harsh scrubbing, and should never be placed in a dishwasher.
