The slope fronted doors have a beautiful curved edging, all cross-banded, a real sign of quality. The is a small oval brass escutcheon which houses the working key.
, a little stiff to get in and out but it does slide out.
There are two brass topped inkwells, (one with a minor corner chip) either side of the removable pen tray with space underneath for keeping pens, nibs and the like. I have included this traditional bone handled dip pen to complete the offering.
There are various sections to store stationery with a couple of old printed invitation cards still present inviting guests to play " Progressive Whist ".
The top lifts to reveal the shallow, narrow tray which holds the cards for the perpetual calendar ( all the day and month cards are present, but there are only sixteen date cards, the backs are black so could be used, somebody with a good hand or stencil could rectify this); underneath is a large section the depth of the cabinet to store large papers or stationery.
There is also a drawer to the bottom of the box which can only be slid open while the box is unlocked and is held secure when the doors are shut.
A beautiful and useful desk-top gem for the lady or gentleman. Excellent condition, measuring 13 1/2" x 11" x 12 3/4" tall at the rear.
