Unusual Scottish Mauchline Ware Sewing / Cotton Spool Box C.1870

Description

A wonderful and rarely found pattern ware Mauchlineware box dating to the Victorian era, c.1870. The top has a central ovoid picture of "Dryburgh Abbey" in Scotland, undoubtedly purchased here as a souvenir in the nineteenth century.

The interior is split into three compartments to house three spools of sewing thread with the wonderful original label lining the lid interior: "Clark & Co's Anchor Sewing Cottons / The Best For Hand & Machine Use".

Stunning condition and measuring 4" x 2" x 1 1/2" tall.
