Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A vitrine is a glass-fronted display cabinet originating in 18th-century France, designed to showcase precious objects, porcelain, and collectibles. The Louis XVI style is characterised by classical proportions, refined geometric outlines, and elaborate gilt-bronze ormolu embellishments.

Traditional French vitrines were crafted using fine hardwoods such as kingwood, tulipwood, mahogany, and rosewood, often configured in parquetry or marquetry veneers. They feature cast gilt-bronze mounts, clear glass panels, and interior glass shelving.

Authentic 19th-century French vitrines exhibit fine hand-cast and hand-chased ormolu mounts, precise veneer patterns, and solid timber framing beneath decorative veneers. Look for maker stamps or signatures from renowned Parisian ebanistes stamped into the timber framework or cast into metal fittings.

A French vitrine can serve as a focal point in a dining room, drawing room, or hallway. Modern styling often involves pairing the ornate cabinet with neutral wall tones or populating the shelves with curated ceramics to contrast classical craftsmanship with contemporary items.

Dust the wooden frame regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and clean glass panels with a non-ammonia glass cleaner applied directly to a cloth. Avoid placing the cabinet near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and veneer lift.
