A five-glass mantel clock is a traditional table timepiece constructed with clear glass panels on five sides of its wooden frame, designed to showcase the internal brass movement from multiple viewpoints.

These cases are crafted primarily from dense hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, veneered with figured walnut, and feature brass clockwork movements alongside steel hands and silvered brass dials.

Authentic period examples feature hand-engraved spandrels surrounding silvered dials, blued steel hands, hand-cut mechanical gearing, and twin winding holes for striking mechanisms.

Position the piece as a focal point on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or study desk to balance clean contemporary lines with historic horological craftsmanship.

Keep the wooden case dusted with a dry microfibre cloth away from direct heat sources, and ensure the mechanical movement is inspected and oiled by a professional horologist every three to five years.
