FAQs

A surprise table, also known as a rising or pop-up drinks table, is a specialised piece of metamorphic furniture designed to present a tray or bar compartment when the leaves or mechanism are operated.

These pieces are typically constructed from fine hardwoods such as mahogany or satinwood, often featuring inlaid stringing, brass hardware, and a removable wooden serving tray.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the joinery, the quality of the timber grain, patination on the brass components, and the mechanical precision of the lifting or folding mechanism.

Such tables function effectively as distinctive accent pieces in a living room or study, combining traditional craftsmanship with practical functionality for entertaining.

Maintenance involves dusting with a dry lint-free cloth and periodically treating the timber with a quality beeswax to nourish the wood and preserve the finish.
