Stunning Antique French Brass Mounted Rosewood Games / Card Box

Description

A wonderful example of a French games box dating to around 1860, made from exotic rosewood and cross-banded in complimentary Tulipwood.

The box is beautifully decorated with exquisite pierced or reticulated brass mounts (enhanced with a decorative engraving) and brass studs all-over even on the back, a sign of quality. There is one tiny leaf loss to the top right-hand side mount on the lid, mentioned purely for accuracy.

The interior is a joy with four individual Rosewood counter boxes each inlaid on the lid with one of the card suit motifs. There is also a boxwood dice shaker with two dice and two (modern) packs of cards which complete the box.

Excellent condition, complete with working key measuring 9 1/2" x 7 1/4" x 3" tall.
