Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chinese red lacquer cabinets originated as prominent storage pieces during the Ming and Qing dynasties, created by applying natural tree-sap lacquer in multiple thin layers over a timber frame. These cabinets frequently displayed hand-painted motifs depicting flora, scholarly instruments, and symbolic patterns that reflected regional styles and social status.

These cabinets are typically constructed using regional timbers like elm, pine, or cedar, bound with cloth or paper undercoats before organic lacquer is applied. Decorative elements are enhanced with hand-painted mineral pigments and secured with hand-forged brass faceplates, hinges, and slide-latch pins.

Authentic pieces exhibit fine craquelure across the lacquer finish, historic wear near brass hardware, and traditional wood joinery such as mortise and tenon joints without metal nails. The interior often retains original paper linings or raw timber surfaces showing age-consistent oxidisation.

A lacquered cabinet serves as a strong accent piece when positioned against neutral walls in living rooms, dining spaces, or entryways. Combining the vibrant red surface with contemporary artwork, sculptural ceramics, or simple modern lighting creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

To preserve lacquer furniture, place it away from direct heat sources, radiators, and prolonged sunlight to prevent surface cracking or fading. Dust regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and avoid using abrasive polishes, chemical cleaners, or excess water.
