Description

This is a really striking and impressive free-standing English oak church alms or offertory box. The wood glows with a rich dark patina, and is encased in spiked iron bands with a heavy iron front latch.

Whilst Victorian Gothic, the box has the appearance of something from the medieval era, with its protective spikes giving a fortified appearance.

The box stands 90cm high, and is 23cm by 20cm wide on top. It is in a good used condition, incredibly strong and sturdy with fabulous aged colour, and with the knocks, wear and patina of standing guard in a church for well over a hundred years.
