Opus Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
This spherical wooden box was used to finish the pills with a silver or gold coating. Gold or silver leaf was used to line the inside. Pills which had been moistened with liquid gum were placed inside.
This measures approx 10cm h x 5.5cm w at the base.
