A bracket clock is a portable spring-driven clock originally designed in the 17th century to sit on a wall bracket or a piece of furniture, evolving through various decorative styles into the 19th and early 20th centuries.

These clocks typically feature seasoned timber cases such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, housing intricate brass mechanical movements with hand-engraved dials and bevelled glass panels.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-cut components, maker hallmarks on the movement backplate, period-appropriate timber ageing, and mechanical wear consistent with age rather than artificial distress.

Placing the clock as a focal point on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or bookshelf allows its traditional craftsmanship to create a sophisticated contrast against minimalist modern furnishings.

Preservation requires keeping the movement away from direct sunlight and humidity, servicing the mechanical gears every few years by a professional horologist, and dusting the timber case with a dry, soft cloth.
