This Regency period striking bracket clock brings classic timekeeping to a modern interior, designed to sit prominently on a mantelpiece or shelf. The dark brown case employs a chamfered rectangular form with straight lines, inset brass corner stringing, and a stepped plinth raised on small brass ball feet. Above, a pyramidal top carries a carved brass pineapple finial. The cream-painted convex dial displays black Roman numerals and delicate hands, inscribed with the maker name P. Ketterer alongside Stamford Hill. A glazed hinged door protects the face, complemented by side hinges and visible winding holes. The natural grain of the timber shows minor losses in select areas while maintaining a polished finish. Practical placement suits a living room mantel, library shelf, or hallway console table where the traditional mechanism provides visual interest and audible timekeeping.

A Regency bracket clock is a portable 19th-century English timepiece designed with a decorative case, often featuring a top finial or handle, and intended to sit on a wall bracket, mantelpiece, or side table. Popularised in the early 1800s, these clocks feature neoclassical architectural proportions, dark wood veneers, and brass inlay.

These clocks were typically constructed using a timber frame faced with flame mahogany or rosewood veneers. Key decorative and structural elements included cast brass mountings, painted enamel or silvered brass dials, clear glass apertures, and turned brass ball feet.

Authentic Regency bracket clocks display neoclassical architectural design features such as stepped tops, brass spandrel stringing, circular dials with Roman numerals, and cast brass finials. Examining maker signatures, hand-cut gear mechanisms, and age-related oxidisation on brass components helps verify authenticity.

Position a bracket clock centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or within a bookshelf setup to serve as a focal point. Pair the dark timber casing and brass detailing with contemporary artwork, clean architectural lines, or neutral colour palettes to contrast classic horology against modern design.

Keep the clock away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and damp areas to prevent the timber veneer from splitting or lifting. Dust the casing regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, apply microcrystalline wax occasionally to protect the wood, and ensure the movement is serviced by a professional horologist every three to five years.
