Description

A completely charming small early 19th century Regency period SEWING BOX complete with its original fittings and tools. The box itself is of black leather, with lion’s mask side handles; gilt metal cartouche to the lid and similar escutcheon.

It opens to reveal various compartments with full set of six cotton reels; 2 silver thimbles (perhaps later); tape measure and various bone tools. Further items underneath include a carved mother-of-pearl needle-case; MOP and silver penknife and MOP winder. What is particularly noteworthy is the delightful picture, printed on(padded) silk within the lid, entitled: “The Cottagers” set within a stylised anthiemon border. 8.75 x 6.25 ins .
