Superb Regency Burr Yew Tea Caddy

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A superb Regency period burr Yew tea caddy. The figuring of the wood is particularly tight and it could possibly be burr elm. The caddy is of sarcophagus form with a panel of parquetry inlay to the lid. The parquetry inlay is in box and ebony in an oblique chequerboard pattern. The caddy is beautifully figured on all sides with a wonderful original colour and patina. The interior is the original with the compartments in calamander wood or similar variant of ebony. The mixing bowl is in Bristol blue glass and is likely the original. The key works and the box locks smartly. A really fine example of a Georgian Tea Caddy, in wonderful original condition. C.1810.
