A Military Campaign Writing Slope

18th century
Description

An early 19thC military campaign writing slope from the late Georgian period. A compact size with undamaged brass banding. Mahogany of an excellent grain colour and patina. Central unwritten name cartouche to the top. Flush brass military side carrying handles. Working lock and key. The interior with a single brass capped ink and upon the opposing side a lidded compartment for sealing wax. Ebonized pen tray. The interior writing surface has been recovered in green baize. The side drawer is locked from the interior with a retractable iron pin. A very good looking writing box of unusual size.

30.3 cm wide 24.6 cm deep and 14.6 cm high. (51 cm long when open)
