Rare Antique English Clipper Ship Inlaid Tea Caddy / Box - C.1870

Description

These Clipper ship inlaid boxes are as rare as hen's teeth, and as a tea caddy, even harder to come across, it will I am sure be many years until I come across another especially as what can only be described as in pristine condition.

The caddy is made from Walnut, the front and top being inlaid with these most wonderful scenes of Clipper ships sailing, flying both the St. Georges flag and in one case, the Union Jack flag.

The interior reveals two lidded compartments for tea, one would have been for black tea and the other for Green tea, these would have been blended to taste before brewing in the teapot.

Standing on four brass ball feet, this magnificent caddy of heirloom quality is in exceptional condition. 9" x 5" x 5 1/2" tall. Complete with working tasseled key.
