Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A pier cabinet is a narrow display cabinet historically designed to fit the wall space between two windows, typically featuring glass doors and elaborate decorative veneers.

These pieces were typically constructed from a pine carcase veneered in walnut, burr walnut, or exotic hardwoods, embellished with floral marquetry and cast gilt brass or ormolu mounts.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional hand-beaten brass fixings, and the natural oxidisation and shrinkage patterns within the veneer.

This piece works effectively as a focal point in a living room or hallway, contrasting against neutral walls to highlight its detailed woodwork and provide refined display space.

Preservation requires maintaining stable room humidity, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent veneer fading, and applying occasional natural beeswax polish while avoiding synthetic cleaners.
