A superb Victorian burr walnut veneered travelling writing box from the mid 19th century. Absolutely original and with little sign of use this piece is in excellent condition. Everything about the writing companion is of more exceptional quality. Externally it is quite reserved with fine brass line inlays and simple descriptive plaque to the top describing it being a gift to (Alexander B. Thompson, from his uncle George, 1st January 1877). The plain brass lockplate gives way to the finest quality Bramah lock complete with it''s original key(These keys are nearly impossible to get cut these days such is their complexity). Internally you have more brass inlay and a pin bolt that allows the external base drawer to open. The original ink wells and pen tray etc. Beneath the original tooled leather lift up lids are two storage compartments, one of which conceals a further secret set of drawers.
