Description:
The box features a moulded two plank top, which is secured with two later period iron strap hinges. The underside of the box features two later oak guide bars, to secure the lid in place when closed. The box incorporates an iron plate and locking clasp, with a later working lock and key. The front of the box is profusely carved with fine quality original lunette carvings. The interior is clean, dry, and usable. It is nice to see the interior retaining the original candle box compartment and lid, originally used for storing candles. The interior also retains its original floorboards, sides and backboards. The box sits on a moulded plinth base. The back of the box retains its original panels along with the original floor. Overall, this trunk boasts a lovely rich original colour and patination.
Condition Report:
The bible box is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the top, external sides and leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos).
