Technical Description
A superb French Bisque porcelain trinket box dating to the 2nd half of the 19th century. The workmanship is of the very highest quality, featuring a sleeping cherub on a pillow of flowers.
Historical Relevance
Cragside in Rothbury (Northumberland) by the Scottish architect Richard Norman Shaw was designed to incorporate every modern convenience. Built for the engineering magnate Sir William Armstrong, it was called ''the palace of a modern magician''. Swan''s new electric lamps were powered by water from a local stream through a dynamo-electric generator and Armstrong becomes the first to use electric power.
