A 19thc Military Campaign Writing Slope

Description

An early 19thC brass bound military campaign writing slope. UNUSUAL SECRET COMPARTMENT (see photos) Rosewood veneer with brass strapping and edge protection. Re baized writing surface. Two brass capped ink wells, pen tray stamp and trinket sections. Brass flush military side carrying handles. Ink stains from spillages in the past.

A very unusual secret compartment with two storage areas and a swivel top sovereign ? box. The compartment is accessed by sliding a blade under a vertical panel to lift it...it can then be removed by hand to access a further panel housing the concealed storage.

Working lock with original key.

51 cm wide by 24.5 cm deep and 17 cm high when closed

Open it measures 51 cm by 51 cm and max 13 cm high.
