Description

A most unusual, and probably unique, Welsh pine artisan's travelling box of exceptional quality and with the original reddish stain, which probably belonged to a horses' groom. The lid has a moulded edge and is fixed with wrought iron hinges, above a dovetailed box with brass carrying handles and raised on bracket feet. The inside of the lid is decorated with prints and paintings as follows (from the left):

1. A naive painting of a horse and rider; 2. An engraving of "The Transformation of PICUS into a Woodpecker"; 3. A large naive painting of horsemen and hounds; 4. An engraved billhead for the Chester Races.
