The Silver Cabinet has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1899.
The base looks to be tortoiseshell but it is hard to be sure without removing it. The stamps inside the lid have retained their bright colours.
There is a small crease on the corner of the lid, otherwise the silver is is in a fine condition.
