Exceptional Quality Large Silver Gilt Freedom Casket 67ozs Sheff 1906

This exceptional quality large and very heavy, rectangular silver-gilt casket, is raised upon a stepped chamfered base. The chamfered edges of this base are adorned with foliate borders, executed in a rich and detailed manner. The casket is topped by a hinged lid with raised central rectangular plinth with engraved leaf decoration, the finial consisting of two scrolled arms supporting a crested shield. The lid ornamented with likewise foliate borders. The front of the casket is adorned with a large central cartouche (the inscription transcribed "be mindful") that is flanked by two panels, each portraying a circular wreath. The reverse of the casket features a beautiful scrolled and engraved repousse design. This truly is stunning from all angles.

Each end with profusely detailed scrolled designs.

This is a very substantial casket, total weight is 67 troy ounces.

The interior of the casket is lined with a sumptuous purple velvet.

Hallmarked to the front with the Sheffield town mark and date letter 'Q' for 1906, maker B.Bros for Barker Brothers
