Superb Black Forest Carving Chalet Jewellery Box

A wonderful, and incredibly detailed Swiss Chalet jewellery box. A stunning example of the best Black Forest carving. The box is based around the design of a typical alpine chalet and the detail is just stunning every inch is realistically carved whether it is the logs in the log pile or the window frames with their leaded glass. Each roof tile is individually made and the whole effect is amazing. The box has a long drawer in the bottom which is carved on the front with edelweiss. The top opens along the line of the balcony and is lined inside with the original velvet, it also has a working lock and key. The overall condition is very good, as one would expect there are some minor losses but nothing major, the patina is dry and untouched. A truly stunning piece of carving almost certainly made in Brienz C.1880.
