I have never had one of these stationery boxes with the integrated slate to the top with the leather latticed over the top with embossed days of the week and finally "Memorandum"; its quite amazing that these leather strips have remained intact without damage.
The interior of the lid is lined in red silk, there is also a silk covered blotter which has it's own compartment at the rear.
There are two slightly different pockets, one which keeps a brass paper knife and the other has a bone bookmark, these are probably not the original pieces but perfectly in keeping.
A most unusual piece in this typically late Victorian red colour in excellent condition. The footprint measures 12" x 4 1/2" deep x 8" tall at rear.
