Rams Head Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The beautiful box is hand painted and lacquered with delightful floral images and fine peacock to the lid. Inside the ivory fittings include seven flower carved thread bobbins at the top, with needle case, ivory darning sheath, pretty steel scissors and ivory mounted scissors, ivory mounted needle holder, bodkin, seven shaped ivory thread cards, ivory crochet hook, an ivory thimble and a tiny flower carved ivory tape measure holder. The set is in truly remarkable condition being not only complete but with no damage to the many ornately carved ivory pieces.
The case is lined in an antique ruby coloured watered silk with the pin cushion areas in a red velvet and all are in excellent original order. The original lock and key are present and working.
A really delightful find.
The case measures 28 cms wide 20 cms deep by 12 cms high.
