A very nice campaign box probably used for important papers and documents.
This heavy wooden and morocco leather covered box has brass corners, brass straps, large robust hinges, brass lid stays and heavy gauge brass carrying handles.
There is also a wonderful brass name plate to the lid with the initials K B under the coronet of a Marquess.
The inside of the box is lined with an old newspaper showing adverts for tobacco and Boar War soldiers and there is also the first report of Queen’s Victoria’s death on the 22nd January 1901
By repute, this box remained in the same family from when it returned from the Boer Wars until now.
This box has wear and tear commensurate with age and use.
