Description

Stunning large Antique 19th century hand carved Chinese scholars box, c 1870. This is a quality piece with outstanding carving to the lid and base, depicting a village scene. There is a signature/some script to the inside of the box in gold (in Chinese and English) but I cannot make it out? It has aged well with great rich colour/patina. Overall condition is good with only minor surface wear and some gapping on the lid where the panels have warped slightly and seperated over time. There is no key.
