Georgian Bur Yew and Parquetry Writing Box or Slope

A wonderful example of a Georgian writing box or slope. The top is parquetry inlaid with a tumbling block design in a multitude of exotic timbers, edged with a dog tooth border. The rest of the box is all in bur yew with a boxwood stringing. The whole has a great untouched patina and gently faded colour. The interior is untouched and has a most amazing used look with ink splashes. The lining paper is all original, as appears the velvet writing slope. The whole looks like it has just been picked up out of the Georgian period, the only slight negative is a lack of inkwells. A fine example of the type in wonderful untouched condition with a working key. C.1810.
