Fabulous Georgian Satinwood Tambour Writing / Stationery Box - Conch Shell Inlay

Description

An absolute gem, rarely found and as elegant as they come. This outstanding early English writing box dates to around 1800 / 1820, Georgian in period.

Made from rich Satinwood the top is decorated with a highly desirable large conch shell inlay, the edges cross-banded.

The front tambour or roll-top is operated by pulling out the drawer, this then rolls back revealing a fully fitted interior including two small drawers with turned ivory knobs.

The drawer is fitted with a lidded compartment for the storage of a pen, nibs, a seal and sealing wax. The two brass topped glass inkwells are intact and in excellent shape.

Either side of the box there is a case brass carrying handle; complete with working key, this gem is in excellent condition and measures 10 3/4" wide x 9 1/4" deep x 5 1/4" tall.
