English Georgian Inlaid Burl Yew Sewing / Jewellery Box C. 1810

Description

A wonderful and highly unusual "two-tier" antique box having been beautifully re-lined with Italian hand marbled paper on the interior.

A very versatile box, perfect for either a lady or gentleman, it could quite easily be used as a jewelry box, sewing box, desk / stationery box or the most stylish period accessory to hide those remote controls!

The box dates to the early nineteenth century and is Georgian in era, and is beautifully decorated with a Tunbridge Ware style parquetry panel to the top surrounded by a mosaic style inlaid border.

The box comes complete with a working key and works both the lock to the main box and the drawer underneath.

A beautiful glossy patina shows off the beauty of the woods, the box remains in excellent condition; measuring 10 1/2" at widest (excluding the decorative turned ivory handles) x 9" x 8" tall.
