Antique Gold Embossed Leather Letter Box - Answered / Unanswered

Description

A handsome Victorian letter box dating to around 1860 with two slots to the top, one for "Answered" correspondence and the other for "Un Answered".

The box is covered in embossed leather with an all-over quilted design with gilt decoration, with the gold worn to the top of the box commensurate with age.

There is the original key which sits in the brass mounted escutcheon and in working order. The interior is totally original with the edges again gilt decorated including the manufacturers signature " Parkins & Gotto, 24 & 25 Oxford St." (in the heart of London's fashionable West End). The interior of the lid also retains it's original silk taffeta.

A wonderful desk accessory, very good condition with minor wear commensurate with age. Measures 8 1/2" x 4 1/2" deep x 6" tall to top of dome.
