Stunning Antique English Brass and Mother or Pearl Inlaid Rosewood Writing Slope / Lap Desk

Description

An exceptional and most beautiful Rosewood writing box with highly decorative floral inlay created from brass, Mother of Pearl and Abalone shell, with no loss to the inlay at all.

The interior reveals a gold embossed red leather writing surface with a compartment underneath each side with plenty of room for the storage of personal stationery, letters, photographs and the like. The cord which creates a message board on the underside of one of the panels could do with replacing.

The top section comprises a removable pen rest with space underneath for sealing wax, nibs and other bits and pieces. There are two brass topped brass inkwells and an additional square sloped compartment for postage stamps.

Quite stunning and complete with a working key, the box is in excellent condition and measuring 13 1/2" x 9" x 5" while closed.
