Elegant Antique Regency Period Wooden Thread Dispenser / Box C.1815

Description

A beautiful and elegant early thread box or dispenser dating to around 1815, making this a true Regency example. The wood I think is Harewood with a darker wooden lid inlaid with Harewood and Burl Yew marquetry.

The lid slides to reveal four compartments, all with the the original lining; lovely to see it being untouched. There are four small holes to one side where the thread would be dispensed, these would never have had ivory eyelets as in later Victorian examples.

The underside is also lucky to have retained it's original paper covering ... a fine antique sewing collectible. Excellent condition, measuring 8 1/2" long x 2 1/2" deep x 2 1/4" tall.
