Fine Brass-bound Walnut Writing Box

Description

A good quality mid-Victorian brass-bound walnut WRITING BOX in original condition.

The box itself is veneered in finely-figured burr walnut and bound with ornate brass "Gothic" strapwork. It opens to reveal the original interior with deep purple velvet writing surface (2 small repairs); various small compartments and two gilded brass-topped ink bottles. All the hinges; locks and screws are gilded as is the retailers plaque. Probably by Betjemann. 14ins wide; 10ins deep; 4.75ins high (35.5 x 25.5 x 12cms)
