A superb quality Regency period tea caddy in Amboyna and Rosewood. The caddy is of sarcophagus form the inverted sides, it is veneered almost entirely in amboyna wood with turned rosewood feet, a band of rosewood on the edge of the lid, a gadrooned moulding on the top, and escutcheon. The whole has a great untouched colour and patina. The interior is all original again in contrasting amboyna and rosewoods with a pair of fitted caddies and a central mixing bowl (this might be a replacement). This is a rare and fine example of a Regency tea caddy and most unusual in amboyna wood an exotic and expensive import from the far east. The caddy is in excellent condition and even has the original key. C.1820.
