Welsh Oak Deed Box, Circa 1700

Description

Welsh oak deed box, the lid having a moulded edge and the sides chip-carved corners. The hasp and lock plate are original, and the historical wrought iron hinges replace the earlier wire hinges. The inside is lined with paper with rows of handwriting. The base overhangs, and has a small piece missing from the front. Good colour and surface patination.

Width: 24.75 inches; 63 cms

Depth: 15 inches; 38 cms.
