Fitted Tunbridge-ware Sewing Box

Description

A fine quality mid-19th century fitted TUNBRIDGE-WARE SEWING BOX in excellent condition.

The box itself is stunningly inlaid with a typical Tunbridge marquetry scene of a castle (Penshurst Place?) within a satinwood panel, and with a highly-detailed border all around. It opens to reveal a beautifully fitted interior with SIX Tunbridge cotton-reels; needle case; hallmarked silver thimble; Tunbridge tape measure; pin cushions and lots of other goodies! Good parquetry border around the sides and back, and it is supported on original compressed bun feet.
