With tambour and rise-and-fall action, this is a lovely example of a Campaign Writing Slope.
The name plate is engraved 'John Pile'.

The tambour is activated by pulling the front drawer forward which also allows the writing slope to be unfolded.
The stationery compartment is made to rise-and-fall by pressing the sprung battens at either end.
The camphorwood is a good, rich colour and patination.
