17th Century Carved Oak Bible Box in Original Condition

Description

Good late 17th century carved oak bible box in basically good original condition. The carved front is totally original and has the original iron lock and lock plate. The top has scratch carved decoration and a chip carved edge with original iron hinges and period old replacement clasp.

The inside has a candle holding section but of extra interest is the inside of the lid which has been covered with Victorian newspaper much of it coloured but there is a black and white section from 1869 offering a £5 reward for information on the death of a dog which was a huge sum of money at that time.

SIZES; 27 1/2" by 19" by 11"
