Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The box is veneered in finest kingwood; beautifully figured and inlaid with brass. The lid opens to reveal a stunning array of engraved silver-gilt topped bottles and jars, all hallmarked, together with a central tray of gilt tools and implements including pen; pencil (possibly gold); scissors; needle case; toothpick etc etc.
Underneath are two trays for jewellery; ivory brush; ivory hand mirror and two very secret drawers.
Signed by the makers: West, St. James's, LONDON. Dated 1845. Stunning.
