Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1900s.
The cartouche to the lid is engraved: P. B. Stanhope Forbes, it opens to reveal a vast array of wonderfully finished tools and implements, many with ivory handles engraved with the owners initials, The upper tray lifts out to reveal SIX ivory rulers and many more implements, with a further half-tray below with yet more objects. Signed: Elliott & Sons (makers) and most are engraved PBSS for the owner.
