Burr Walnut Vanity Box C.1860

A charming vanity box which is made from Burr Walnut and ebony bounded. Towards the end of the 18th century these sort of dressing cases were manufactured specifically to accompany upper class individuals during travel. Theses sort of dressing cases spoke volumes about the owners wealth and place in society. Such travelling was only done by the elite.

By the Victorians times more women were starting to travel and their requirements were anything but utilitarian. This Example contains a wide range of decorative silver plated and glass bottles and jars as well as some beautification tools, all designed with pure luxury in mind. The top tray lifts out to reveal a storage section underneath.

Integrated in the lid is a mirror which can be taken out and reversed round and used as a letter rack. The exterior has two brass inlays and with a front draw for Jewellery. Comes with fully functioning lock and key and dates back to the Victorian period c.1860.
