Mid 19th Century Ceylonese Reeded Ebony Writing Slope

A mid 19th century Ceylonese reeded ebony writing slope with a bone escutcheon, possibly from the Galle district.

The interior consists of a long pen tray section with a hinged lid, inlaid with an engraved ivory design. Inside this are various compartments for pens etc & two inkwell compartments, unfortunately the inkwells are missing.

Just below this is a circular ruler and below this is a shaped & inlaid frieze

This leads a removable ebony & boxwood strung cover which uncovers three secret drawers.

The main section consists of a folding writing slope with storage space below this, covered in black leather with a gold line decoration.

When the box is closed it purely looks like a reeded

ebony box.

This piece is in very good condition and can go straight into a home.
