Description

A fine quality antique 17th Century oak bible box on a later (probably 19th Century) stand, c1690. The box has nice hand-carved lunette carving to the front frieze, plus 'pie crust' edging. The stand is on good turned supports.

The lock appears to be original, but the hasp has broken. The box still has most of its paper lining, which is very rare.

The colour/patination is good and consistent with what you would expect from a period piece, and there are no significant losses or defects. Overall we would describe the item as being in good condition commensurate with age and use with only minor age related wear. This is a good example of a 'proper' and useful antique which would look great in any home.
