Michael Johnson Antiques has dated this piece to the 1850s.
The top tray lifts out to reveal storage space underneath. The right-hand side the box has a brass pin which activates and pushes the side tray outwards which would have been used for jewellery.

This Vanity Box dates back to the Victorian period, c.1850.
